- read the ‘Being a Goods Vehicle Operator’ through the link – Being a goods vehicle operator;
- read about PSV (Public Service Vehicle) operator licences;
- read and / or possibly download Commercial vehicle safety and maintenance guides;
- obtain DVSA operator reports (so called traffic light score report – Your DVSA Operator Reports;
- read necessary information through news alerts by submitting an email address to Office of the Traffic Commissioner news alerts;
- add / remove a Director – this would need to be replicated on Companies House if you are a limited company;
- add an additional Safety Inspection; maintenance provider (you will also need a signed agreement – this would be kept on file).
Using VOL you can also, as major changes; there would usually be charges for these:
- add or remove a transport manager; using the new on-line service (formally the TM1 form);
- increase the vehicle limit on your licence – you will need to provide financial information;
- change your licence type; to standard from restricted (or vice versa – rare), partnership / sole trader to a Limited Company (LTD) or Limited Partnership (LLP);
- change your operating centre; this will require an advert – HGV only.
VOL is straightforward and easy to use. It reduces the time required to progress most changes to licences. Changes to vehicles are effective immediately.
